Glascote Academy is a growing school in the heart of Tamworth. We have 256 pupils on roll and most come from the Glascote area. We are a very warm, friendly school with high aspirations. Experiences and opportunities around our local community and further afield are very important and are integral parts of our school. We believe that every child is unique and deserves to reach their full potential.
Our biggest project, our community farm with calves, pigs, sheep and ducks is now well established and enriches every child's learning . As if this isn't enough the children also benefit from our school reading dog who boosts the children's reading confidence. Creativity and diversity are developed through WOW weeks, forest and farm weeks and music. Every class has music lessons and work towards Music Board Association examinations, in 2016 our pupils gained distinction.
We believe that it is important for parents to thrive as much as their children and we offer family learning as well as Family Seal and a regular Fitness Boot Camp! We have very supportive parents who enjoy attending concerts, assemblies, inspire workshops, family lunches and many events.
At Glascote Academy we pride ourselves on promoting a range of activities through the taught curriculum, extra-curricular activities and visits which promote an active lifestyle. We support the government’s initiative to combat obesity, enjoy being active and engage in competitive sport regularly.
Our PE vision is to create a PE curriculum that develops, motivates and enthuses every individual child to become a lifelong learner. We aim to give opportunities for all pupils to develop their leadership, coaching and officiating skills. As a school we want to create a buzz about physical activities where every child feels confident and ready to participate.
We are delighted to have received the Bronze Sportsmark award to recognise our achievements in promoting physical activity.
Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression and it can play an important part in the personal development of people. Music reflects the culture and society we live in and so the teaching and learning of Music enables children to better understand the world they live in. Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, Music can also be a highly academic and demanding subject. It also plays an important pare in helping children feel part of a community. We provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy Music, to develop the skills, to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms and to begin to make judgements about the quality of Music. We also provide opportunities in Year 2 and Year 6 for children to undertake Music Board accredited examinations as a class with the appropriate accreditation from the examination. In 2015 Year 2 and Year 6 received Distinctions.
